First Super Tuesday results: Biden takes Virginia & North Carolina; Vermont called for Sanders

Joe Biden has won the Virginia primary in a landslide, and mainstream media outlets are predicting he will win the most delegates in North Carolina as well. Bernie Sanders is leading in his home state of Vermont.

At stake in the first contests on Tuesday are Virginia’s 99 delegates and Vermont’s 16. Polls in the two states closed at 7pm Eastern time (midnight GMT). North Carolina has 110 delegates, and was widely expected to be a Biden pick-up.

Biden has officially won the state of Virginia, easily coming out on top with 53 percent of the vote with all precincts reporting. Sanders scored just 23 percent, while Warren trailed even further with 11 percent of the vote.

Some 14 states, along with American Samoa and Democrats Abroad, are picking their favorites for the 2020 party nomination to run against President Donald Trump in November.
