The great NHS sell-off and Madness (E310)

Is Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) being quietly transformed from a public health system, designed to deliver healthcare to everyone dependent on need, into one where much of its activities have been outsourced to private companies? Where is it all going to lead? Can the NHS survive unless these changes are reversed? Is the move towards a US-style private health insurance model inevitable? Dr. Bob Gill has been a tireless campaigner for the NHS and its founding principles, he has also produced a documentary called “The Great NHS Heist,” so, he came into the Sputnik studio to deliver a stark warning.

The band ‘Madness’ had no fewer than 15 top ten hits in the 1980s and their “nutty” sound became the soundtrack of an era. They are now approaching their 40th anniversary, and to mark this landmark they are preparing for a UK-wide tour. They have also released a brand new single, the ‘Bullingdon Boys’, which takes a swipe at the Old Etonian/Oxford chums of some of our current parliamentarians. So, we invited one of the founding members of the band, keyboard player and all-round good egg Mike Barson into the Sputnik studio.
