Don't Sell Me, Mama!
Maudood and his wife have decided to sell their nine and four-year-old daughters. There are no jobs for Maudood. The dire economic situation in Afghanistan has landed him in debt. So selling his girls seemed like the only way out. If he doesn't get any money to pay off the debts and buy food, his family will starve and freeze to death. He is not the only one around to make a decision like this. Many other families are in the same position, and their neighbors don't judge them. They hope to get from $1,500 to $2,000 for one girl. Unfortunately, the girls don't have much say in the matter. They hope for a miracle. Is there any way around the impossible decision to sell a child or starve to death?
