Veteran Russian war correspondent wounded in Ukrainian drone attack
Evgeny Poddubny, a war correspondent for the Russia-1 TV channel, has been wounded in a Ukrainian attack on Kursk Region, the broadcaster said on Wednesday.
The journalist had been covering the ongoing hostilities in the area, which continued after Ukrainian forces launched a major cross-border incursion early on Tuesday.
Poddubny was injured when his car was hit by a Ukrainian FPV kamikaze drone, according to preliminary information.
He received “serious wounds” in the attack and has been hospitalized, the broadcaster said.
The interim governor of Kursk, Aleksey Smirnov, later said Poddubny had regained consciousness and was receiving all the necessary treatment.
A few hours before the attack, Poddubny published a drone video showing an apparent war crime committed by Ukrainian troops in the Russian village of Zeleny Shlyah, located near the border.
Footage showed a Ukrainian US-made Stryker armored personnel carrier, concealed in thick shrubbery, opening fire on a civilian vehicle at point blank range. The vehicle ran into a ditch, catching fire, while all its occupants were killed, Poddubny said.
The 40-year-old war correspondent has covered multiple armed conflicts throughout his career, including hostilities in Africa and the Middle East. Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Poddubny has provided firsthand reports from the most active sections of the front line.
