RT's special coverage of Russian movie crew shooting world's first feature film in space

A Russian movie crew behind the first-ever film-shoot aboard the International Space Station have returned home after their pioneering endeavor. RT's provided the special coverage of the groundbreaking cinematographic feat.

RT has been covering the return of the filmmakers from its studio in Moscow, from Roscosmos' Mission Control Center, as well as from the Soyuz MS-18’s landing site in Kazakhstan. The broadcast featured interviews with crew members' loved ones waiting on the Earth, as well as with cosmonauts and space experts, while also expanding on how actress Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko prepared for their unique mission, and on what they did aboard the ISS.

The Soyuz MS-18’s return capsule with Peresild, Shipenko and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky successfully touched down in the Kazakhstan steppe on Sunday, with all three crew members feeling well.

Peresild and Shipenko spent 12 days at the ISS, becoming the first people in history to conduct location shooting for a movie in space. They filmed a whopping 30 terabytes of unique footage to be used in an upcoming drama, titled 'The Challenge.' The zero-G scenes from the space station are going to account for 30 to 40 minutes of the flick's running time.

Peresild stars in it as a cardiac surgeon who is recruited to travel to the International Space Station to perform an emergency procedure on an ailing cosmonaut. The project was jointly organized by Russia's Channel One and the country's space agency Roscosmos.

There were some 3,000 candidates for the high-flying role, with Peresild being selected for the job not only for her acting skills, but also high fitness level. Shipenko and the actress underwent an accelerated training course to able to embark on their space adventure.
